- proximity to neighborhood shops and restaurants
- so much more!
Staying in a local's home when you travel is a win-win for you, the host, and the community you visit. You will stay more affordably than if you rely exclusively on hotels. You will help a local resident afford to remain in their home post-recession. And you will discover and support unique local businesses that you may never find otherwise.
Spend a few nights in one of the private guest rooms in this beautifully restored and decorated, immaculately clean, 1908 Craftsman home near University of California at Berkeley. We love hosting travelers from all over the world.
The home is fully furnished, equipped, and immaculate. It is located in a quiet, residential area, but just a short walk from shops and restaurants. You will sleep in your own private, locking room, and share the kitchen, bathrooms, and living areas with the residents and other guests. Derby Creek Guesthouse is perfect for visiting scholars, traveling executives, and families seeking a clean, quiet, well-appointed home away from home while vacationing or working in the Bay Area. Just steps away from grocery stores, cafes, cinema, shops, banks, and UC Berkeley campus activities, it couldn't be better located.
When you stay at Derby Creek Guesthouse, we will meet you at a pre-arranged arrival time to show you where to find the things you need and answer any questions you have. We share the home with you and are available to answer questions or help with any unexpected problems. You will wake up to free, organic breakfast (self-serve), and complimentary hot and cold beverages all day.
Your stay is made super comfy and convenient with plush towels and down bedding, and full-house privileges, plus all cooking equipment, utensils, and other conveniences of home. You'll have free, powerful wi-fi and the option of a wired Internet connection; an in-room landline phone; and a shared TV with premium cable, HBO, and DVD player.
Whether you're feeling sociable or private, the setup is designed to help you feel completely at ease here. Everything you need is easy to find independently, including spare blankets, kitchen supplies, and temperature controls. You can quietly sip an early morning cup of tea at a table in your room, relax on the porch as the fog rolls out, gather with the family around the garden table, or join your host and other visitors in the dining room for friendly conversation. There's no expectation that you'll socialize with others (you're in Berkeley for important reasons of your own), but if you enjoy that aspect of shared living, you can easily strike up a conversation with fellow guests.
Your host is a former nonprofit director and conservation advocacy professional, currently studying psychology for a career change. The host lives in the home year-round, except while traveling. Family members occupy the home part of the year, so it is not available for long term rental. However, the entire home can be rented as a vacation rental when it's not occupied by the family.
Spend three nights to three weeks in this fully furnished and outfitted studio apartment near UC Berkeley when its full time tenant, Dennis, is away on business.

Its fully equipped, built-in kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, sink, cabinets, toaster oven, coffeepot, tea kettle, dishes, pots & pans, utensils, etc. A clean and fully updated bathroom is supplied with bath towels, soaps, and a hair dryer.
